It's in your hands!
It's that time of year when, almost every wall you see, is covered in posters, advertising candidates of the gubernatorial and presidential elections, scheduled to take place this year. It's that period when all news stations are coloured with headlines on the forthcoming elections. The time for disturbance from my much deserved afternoon naps has arrived, as almost everyday now, buses coated with political party posters, have made it a duty of theirs, to go around neighborhoods with public address systems and blaring music.
Many of us have probably decided to stay out of the politics of Nigeria at this point, while in the same vein, many have decided to be staunch supporters of particular political parties and candidates. While few actually know the candidate, whom they would be giving their votes to, many just go about clamouring for candidates because they are members of the hearsay club.
Deciding to vote is not nearly as important as choosing the right candidate. What I mean by the right candidate isn't the candidate your friend, Anjola won't stop talking about and singing his or her praises. No, what I mean, is that candidate you know is a translation of your definition of a good and efficient leader.
Getting to know that candidate doesn't happen just by sitting on your very comfortable couch. It happens by actively taking steps to be informed. I honestly cannot stretch the importance of choosing the right candidate enough and we've seen over the years, just how important it is. Taking active steps to be informed may seem stressful and unnecessary, but I assure you, choosing the wrong candidate would prove to be even more stressful, in the long run. Making the decision to do right by your country, starts with you making a decision to do away with all form of partisan politics and sentiments attached to politics. It continues with you extensively researching on the candidates, visiting their websites, watching and listening to their interviews, reviewing their manifestos, carrying out 'Google Searches' on their life before and after politics and even visiting their social media pages.
Choosing the right candidate doesn't end with you. You can also engage in discussions with your friends, colleagues and even family members, stating facts that contribute in making your candidate, the right choice.
Regardless of my advice to engage in discussions, it is important to note the fact that I clearly stated, these discussions should be with friends, colleagues and family members, we wouldn't want bottles flying around because of political discussions ๐๐
Nigeria needs more informed voters and you can be one! make that decision to vote intelligently.
