THE MONSTER WE BREED - JOLAHSTHOUGHT

The lady in the mirror stared back at her.
She turned left, turned right,
Examining every blemish and flaw,
Angling her neck,
Straight, crooked,  nothing seemed right.
She kissed red, stroked her eyes with black,
Caressed her face with white.
Everything soon seemed right.
A perfect smile plastered,
She raised her chin, held her head high.
She glowed for the world to see.

Splashes of water, wiping of red kisses,
Rhythmic movements of foamy hands later,
The lady in the mirror stared back at her once again.
She angled her neck, altering pose after pose.
Straight, crooked, forward, backward, all seemed wrong.
She cast her eyes, took one step after the other,
Running from the lady in the mirror.

The monster we breed
Half the time when we talk about enemies we are actually referring to our own selves. Shocker right? The enemy may not necessarily be the people who constantly bring you down. The enemy is  most likely the monster you somehow breed inside yourself. The monster is that voice constantly  telling you you're not good enough. It's that voice saying one person's criticism of you tramples all other people's praises. It's that voice telling you your pictures just never come out right.
We breed this monster inside without even knowing. The monster grows with every negative notion you hold about yourself. It increases in size when you constantly wait for people to validate you or compliment you before feeling good about yourself. It takes over, staking claim of your entire being  when you altogether feel uncomfortable in your own skin.
As someone who struggles with the monster, I know getting rid of it is hard but hard is not impossible. Murdering the monster may be slow. As slow as the passing of time between the beginning of ASUU strike till now but it is definitely effective. We murder the monster by looking in the mirror, staring right back at the person we see and telling that person "You are Enough!".
